Staig & Smith Ltd offers an integrated surveying and engineering service to the Land Development Industry. We have experience in a wide range of land developments including complex servicing requirements and those within sensitive, geographical or geological areas. From Nelson, the Land Development Division travels throughout New Zealand, wherever our knowledge and experience is needed!

Land subdivision is our core activity. The key to a successful subdivision is the coordination of the many facets of each project. We will manage relationships with professional contributors to the project and communicate progress with you at each step along the way.

Staig & Smith calculate shading created by structures or trees and present the results in an easily understood format. Shadow modelling can be carried out for any time of day (except night time!), any day of the year.

Staig & Smith are fortunate to have over-arching expertise in all areas of land development, and as a logical extension of our core business, offer professional project management services. With broad in-depth understanding and experience, we are able to ensure that all facets of the project, no matter how small or large, are co-ordinated while keeping communication lines open at all stages.

Staig & Smith have experience in a range of deformation monitoring situations. We use Leica 1200 series Robotic Total stations with an in-built 'Sets of Angles' program. Numerous sets of survey observations are completed automatically to reflective targets. Following a Least Squares analysis, the mean results are calculated and exported for further analysis.

Staig & Smith have longstanding experience in dealing with surveying natural boundaries and defining areas of accretion (build up of land) or erosion (loss of land) through the movement of natural boundaries e.g. coastline or river boundaries.

The traditonal approach of piping stormwater as quickly as possible to lakes, rivers or the sea has been replaced by a desire to provide treatment of stormwater to improve the quality of water being discharged into the receiving environment. Local Authorities are now accepting non-traditional methods of dealing with stormwater, which in addition to improving water quality, may also allow less costly stormwater reticulation to be installed.

Car Parks and Tennis Courts can generate relatively high volumes of run-off from hard surfacing. Staig & Smith have experience with the design and construction of car parks and tennis courts, along with dealing with stormwater run-off where downstream stormwater reticulation is inadequate or non-existent.

Buildings are often high value assets and may require precise positioning within a site, particularly when building to the boundary or observing daylight controls.

The traditional methods of disposing of stormwater into the sea, lakes or rivers by piping has come under greater scrutiny in recent years. Similar to the gradual introduction of treatment for raw effluent prior to discharge becoming mainstream, we are now seeing raised expectations for the treatment of stormwater to remove contaminants and suspended solids.

Low lying sites may present difficulties for providing gravity drainage for sewer or stormwater. Pump Stations may be required as the only practical means to provide drainage.

With a variety of software suites we are able to offer civil and structural draughting to draft or completed standard, along with scheduling and contract documents.
